Talk Sage: Creating a viable free open source alternative to Magma, Maple, Mathematica and Matlab

Presented by William Stein in Scientific track 2010 on 2010/07/10 from 12:15 to 12:30 in room Dussane
Abstract

I started the Sage project in 2005, with the goal of creating a free Python-based open source alternative to the commercial systems Magma, Maple, Mathematica, and Matlab. In this talk, I'll describe the history and motivation behind the Sage project, the web-based Sage notebook, and give examples of how Sage can be used in scientific computing.
