Talk Python for particle-based CFD simulations

Abstract

Today, the particle-based CFD methods such as the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH), the Discrete Element Method (DEM) or the Particle Finite Element Methods are increasingly often used (and developed) for flows with interfaces and common in geophysical and astrophysical applications. However, despite the fact that in the most of the particle-based methods the algorithms are very similar, there is no one good framework that could allow to easily develop such techniques. The main aim of this work is to present the idea and the early stage code (open source) that is designed as an extension (written in C) to the Python language. The most promising solution is the one that corresponds to the modeling of interactions between particles which is based on the idea of, taken from GPU simulations, short kernels.
